1. What was the inspiration to create CBBD? / 2. When was it created and who were its founders?
Citizens’ Brigade Band of Dasmariñas was established on 1989 under the Citizens’ Brigade of Dasmariñas (a non-political, non profit organization). Its members are Dasmarineños and non-Dasmarineños who have a passion and love for music. Its initial senior members are musicians who trained at the military or army and musicians who are members of the Town’s Band. Currently CBBD has more than a hundred members both Senior and Junior Musicians.
They have trained new generations of musicians in the CBD’s Summer Music Workshops which is held annually. At the workshop, they have taught the participants how to read music notations/symbols and how to play an instrument. Marching drills are also taught.
There are many advantages and privileges being a musician. CBBD members and even other band musicians have a privilege to be College Scholars by joining the College Bands. The youth are spared from being addicted to harmful activities like drugs and criminal actions. They earn money every time they make a "band assistencia”. They see other places when they make out of town Band Exhibitions. Among the places they have been are Vigan, Laoag, La Union, Baguio,Bataan, Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas and Romblon thus promoting Philippine Tourism.
CBBD is one of the important institutions in Dasmariñas and a role model for the youth and the young at heart for it promotes music education and the love for the craft; discipline, perfecting music is very hard what more playing music while walking and maintaining a straight line; camaraderie, each member has strong friendship with one another; unity, if not through the efforts of one another a band may not be successful; health, notice band members can walk even the longest miles; patriotism, because they serve for the welfare of the Town and the Country; and Religion, the band actively participate in Church and Religious activities.
3. How was your rise among the national ranks? (Like how did you get into competing on a national level) / 4. What is the most prestigious title you have won?
Since its establishment CBBD has gained much recognition at different Band competitions and Marching Band Drill Exhibitions. CBBD trains very hard to perfect its marching and drill. In fact, in order to build stamina during competitions, they trained during the hottest time of the day. CBBD's late Drum Major, Mr. Victor Sapida, trained each musicians very well. Every step and turn must be snappy and precise just like the military men. During competitions, each must wear their complete uniforms, hair well-groomed and the guys must not have beards or mustache. Before band competitions were dominated by bands coming from Bacoor, Cavite but with hard work and perseverance the band rose among the ranks. CBBD has its signature take-off march. In addition, CBBD is well known to have elaborate and colorful costumes. They introduced wearing kilts, Russian soldier uniforms and now, anime costumes. Almost every year they are grand slam winners at different Town Fiesta Competitions. Some of which are gained from Silang, Pasay City and Las Piñas City.
CBBD’s trophies and awards are too many that it needed a large room in order to house it. One of the most priced awards came from the First Manila Band Competition (A project of Mayor Lito Atrienza, in celebration of "Araw ng Maynila”) held at the Quirino Grandstand where the band won the Best Marching Band, Best Drum Major and Best Uniform awards. Aside from the trophies a sum of P250,000.00 was given to CBBD. The band competition was participated by Bands from Metro Manila and Bands from nearby Provinces.
